SHARM EL SHEIKH: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Health, participated in the 40th regional meeting of the Regional Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The meeting is held in Sharm el Sheikh, the Arab Republic of Egypt, during the period from June 9 to 11.

The meeting reviewed reports from countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region and discussed progress achieved as well as challenges facing polio eradication programmes.

During the meeting, the Commission confirmed that the Sultanate of Oman remains free of polio. This achievement reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s steadfast commitment to protecting public health and strengthening national gains in prevention and immunisation.

The Commission commended Oman’s integrated national efforts that have contributed to sustaining this public health milestone for more than three decades, in line with the highest internationally adopted standards and practices.

This confirmation reflects the advanced position the Sultanate of Oman holds in the field of communicable disease prevention and the strengthening of health security. - ONA
